Okay, now that I have your attention, let’s talk about how to market your window cleaning business!

Sorry to trick you, but HEY, I had to get your attention somehow, right?

(and I apologize about getting your hopes up with some imaginary pics)

Funny, isn’t it, how some keywords or keyword strings seem to possess other-worldly magnetism, like “Britney Spears” or  WWE or Jessica Alba. In fact, all of these terms and acronyms I just listed made the top 10 most searched terms on Yahoo for 2007.

Crazy.

How about for 2008?

Well,  according to BBC News, here are the fastest rising global queries for 2008.

See anything different? There is a significant difference.

It seems that Britney and Jessica are nowhere to be seen.

2008 was the year of Sarah Palin, Beijing, Facebook, Obama, and Heath Ledger, to name a few of the top 10 search terms.

Britney who?

The big lesson?

What worked in 2008 might not automatically work in 2009.

The world is always changing, and the people in it, including the people in your neighbourhoods, that buy your window cleaning services, are changing with it.

Their concerns are changing. Their interests are changing. Their lives are changing.

Just because last year they cared about saving $25 doesn’t mean that they still do.

Just because they enjoyed your offer of a FREE eavestrough maintenance report, or a FREE frame and sill caulking inspection, doesn’t mean that these things still turn their crank.

Keep listening to your clients. Keep watching them. Keep trying to get inside their heads to figure out what makes them tick, and what they care about NOW. All that matters is NOW.

And in our world of mass “Attention Deficit Disorder”, only savvy Window Cleaning Business Owners who can pinpoint what their prospects are concerned with right NOW will succeed in capturing their attention, and then their money.

Otherwise, you could be a year late and a few hundred dollars short.

  2. Quite true, here in the UK 2009 is going to be very different to 2008. The “credit crunch” has been the only topic on the news for the last few months. I guess customers are really going to want value for money! This does not have to mean cheaper, rather, making sure they feel they are getting what they pay for.

    Now the marketing challenge becomes “how can I use this information to make my message even more persuasive?”

    Here’s one suggestion: For your next flier, use a headline that taps into this top-of-mind subject, and connects it with your solution for them.

    “UK Credit Crunch Relief!” or something like that.
